Out With The Old

Tue Feb 12, 2008, 11:26 PM
Pushing off my old entry, which has been up since late August. Time for an update.

School's going all right. Getting good grades. (Future's so briiight, I gotta wear shades. *harmonica riff*) My illustration, animation, and history of animation classes are going pretty smoothly, but jeeze, the two others are demanding.

Literature & Writing class is like instant brain-death as soon as the teacher walks in. I like reading, I like writing. I do not like sitting in an uncomfortable plastic chair for three hours listening to a worn-out leftover from the Hippie Movement prattle on about the book while trying not to go blind from her horrible clothing or slip into a coma from terminal boredom.

Acting class, while not the wide-awake nightmare I'd feared it would be, isn't a lot of fun or very educational. Which kinda makes the whole thing moot for an animator, but whatever. As long as I pass, I'll live. I don't think anything short of someone going into my skull and mucking around with my brain will make me a decent actor. I run on a core of unfiltered nervousness and shyness, but instead of going 'curl-up-in-corner-and-cry' when I have to act in front of the class, I go twitchy, over-the-top, and nonsensical, but still kinda able to function. IT'S A MIRACLE!

What's sad is that acting replaced a class I did like a lot, Storytelling, if only becuase the teacher played us a clip from a horrible horrible 60's movie called 'Manos: Hands of Fate' as an example of how NOT to make a movie. [link]

FUN FACT: 'Manos' is Spanish for 'hands', so the full title is 'Hands : The Hands of Fate'. Just one of the many nonsensical aspects of that movie. And yes, I've seen all of it, and yes, it did scar me for life, even if the version I saw had people down in the corner of the screen making fun of it. [link]

See you in another six months! (Ha ha. Joke.)
